I only made it a couple hours into the audio version, which is about 15 hours long. Labels do violence to people. Was very disappointed at this attempt at fiction.

Carol becomes a true patient and confronts the fears that have tortured her. It amazes me how a man famous for his psychological insight, someone who works with human complexity, can create such cardboard people when he writes. Early in the novel, a male patient, Justin, who has been working with Ernest for several years, announces that he is leaving his wife, Carol, for another woman. It felt skeezy to me.
Ernest is pleased since he views the marriage between Justin and Carol as unhealthy, while a bit dismayed that Justin fails to acknowledge Ernest’s contribution in helping Justin develop the confidence to take this step. Yalom 1 11 May 23, Eleanor Oliphant Is Completely Fine.
Is there more to it as presented in this book? His fictional therapist seeks to have his emotional needs met by his patients, until he finds a former fling to meet his sexual needs, thus freeing him to become in focussed in his clinical work with an ‘attractive borderline’ patient.

We appreciate your feedback. Fascinating, engrossing and relentlessly intelligent, it ultimately moves readers with a denouncment of surprising humanity and redemptive faith. But these initial intrigues never develop into anything of deeper thematic interest. Much of couchh stuff is simply uninteresting, and often it seems the author is so interested in the dynamics of their own profession that they forgot to explain to the reader why it is that they should care.

The lesson of the day is that your therapist wants to have sex with you. The Gift of Therapy. The therapy sessions in are a fictionalized demonstration of the author’s method of therapy, and I found these enjoyable to read. A bit predictable and oversexualuzed for me.
