Join Date Jan Posts I found a data sheet on the LM, and it looks like you need at least 22uF on the output, and drop-out will be around 0.

Hi Daniel, Just checked the datasheet http: I couldn’t find a datasheet for the LMCT5, but, some LDO dataxheet require specific capacitor values on the output or they will oscillate, and that causes major problems. What are the caps on the BS2P40 demo board? I measure the input and the output and seemed ok.

Regards, -Bruce tech at rentron. Your use of Yahoo! Is ths just because of the load placed on it due to the lcd? Hi danielhr77, Make sure you have enough capacitance fitted both before and after the regulator. I can’t find a schematic of it. Hi John, What is the input voltage to the regulator — can you measure it?

The power lm2490ct-5 Watts being dissipated within the regulator is the voltage drop across the regulator times the current passing through it. Text in the Subject and Body of the message will be ignored.

Just in case, tried another one, nothing happened. I switched back to the and everything worked again!!! The acceptable range of ESR plotted versus load current is shown in the graph below. Another, does your LCD has backlights? Furthermore, hidden in the ap note the ones that I have seen is an admonition to have a minimum current load.

I will try it with the additional cap. I like lm2940ch-5 put a led on the output for the minimum load, and to show, solidly, that power IS really on.

Should I use some other voltage regulator? Groups is subject to http: Results 1 to 5 of 5. Larger values of output capacitance will give improved transient response. I believe the data sheets show a 0. Hello, All I have is a cap between the output and ground at 22uf. Basic Stamp List Subject: Join Date Jul Posts 2, If too little or none they can oscillate which may not show on your dagasheet Do you know about how much output current you have?

If you aren’t running very much current, and your Vin isn’t too high, a small clip-on heat sink can significantly reduce the regulator’s temperature. The only things being powered in the circuit is the stamp and the LCD.

Hi All, I have a PIC application 16f88 and 2 leds that is working fine with a from National and a 6 volts 1 amper battery. Members who have read this thread: It’s interesting that mine gets this hot when I have seen schematics using the same setup, with a 10uf cap even.

Another data sheet says 0.

LM2940ct 5.0 gets HOT quick.

Any ideas why is not working with the LMCT5? Let us know if this solves the problem? Here’s a snip from p. Thanks, John In basicstamps yahoogroups.

The LM gets hot after a few min which isn’t nice. The ESR of the output capacitor will cause loop instability if it is too high or too low. Typically, LCD displays take very little, but I’m not familiar with the unit you’re using.
