Nelms’ book is one of the most dog-eared ones on my shelf and is nelns within easy reach. A reading for the magician interested in the historical aspect of presentation. Useful to anyone not just magicians. The Henning Nelms book is great and I too am surprised that it had not yet been mentioned prior to that interview.
In Dodd Showmamship interview with Jim Callahan on Magic Newswire, Jim mentioned that he was given a copy of Henning Nelms’ book “Magic and Showmanship” when he was young and the book still influences his presentations today. Want to Read saving…. If you wanted Linking Rings and you didn’t know much about magic I actually read some too.

As an aside, one of the best quotes I’ve heard about writing came about indirectly from this work. Goodness, I never have forgotten Nelms! That’s “Smellin'” spelled sideways, sort mmagic.
Since you brought up Henry Hay’s “Amateur Magician’s Handbook” it reminded me that Kirk felt every conjuror should have to memorize the chapter called anf Magic State of Mind” and recite it to gain membership in any magic organization. With books there were chapters and even entire books devoted to theory.
