Mohammed Hanif is a marvellous storyteller, creating a suspenseful plot that will keep you alert until the last page of the book. I have a close friend who has been involved in Pakistani politics for decades and he told me that each of the characters like the prisoner in the cell next door to the protagonisteach of the places, in the book corresponds to something real, and known, in Pakistani political circles.
