Somewhere in the review section for this book I read mexicp along the lines of “Del Paso is the greatest writer alive because he can elongate the phrase ‘Palinuro is such a badass, he knows everything there is to know about medicine and besides he’s fucking his cousin’ for pages”.
He gets a literary laundering of his body, which, mexick all is said and done. I told her it was either Renaissance or 18th Century literature and had nil to do with Boom.
It’s excessive and overwhelming, it’s epic and sprawling, it’s many things all at once.

Chronicling in a number of voices the life of Palinuro and his cousin Estenfaniadel Paso’s dense but entertaining text is a splendid novel. Five stars for Grandfather Fransico’s stories. And yet, it had me hooked. If you are, it will be the best book you will ever read. Nobody, therefore, is entitled to feel included in this book. Palinure de Mexico – France. If I were asked what this book is about, I will be able to do no more than babble like a six month old. For this reason, I think twenty years from now I’ll be able to say it was one of the fundamental books of df life.

And that is why Del Paso is a genius. We have not read the original Spanish, but we also praise Elisabeth Plaister for a translation that reads extremely well. I’d definitely advise enterprising readers and fans of the surreal to at least read the first half, there’s some really good shit in there. He sings of sex, of autopsy, of amputation and of excretion. Flaubert read the A surrealistic maelstrom in PoMo: Reading Palinuro of Mexico makes for a rather demanding relationship. Taking into account all that is wonderful and all that is potentially frustrating about Palinuro of Mexicomy rating averages to all of those five stars.
