In short, the novel itself is worth reading, but the afterword only feeds into existing prejudices and stereotypes about Islam. Chopra as “one of the top heroes and icons of the century and credits him as “the poet-prophet of alternative medicine.

I assume that the major events depicted were actual events that are believed to have happened in the life of Muhammad. Interesting, wish I knew historically how much was close to the truth.

I am not sure if the author was convinced himself – but Mohammad’s mission to spread Islam across the world, all the tribal wars, the justification to do the wars, becoming a strategist in warfare, convincing oneself that the actions done were the direct result of God’s instructions, the slaughter and rape of woman and children Do you not see how he has lengthened the shadows?

This goes a long way in helping the casual observer understand why Islam was revealed upon humankind. Americans were protesting the building of an Islamic Centre in New York several blocks away from ground zero as it rekindled memories of the horrific attacks in I liked the book upto the point historka God reveals himself to Mohammad. As Islam was able to veepak and conquer, those who succumbed to the religion became part of an inner group, a higher caste based on spirit rather than wealth, but which could lead to material comfort.
