Abstract The primary aim of this experimental research was to provide information on the slip coefficient performance of ASTM A stainless steel material and to ascertain if its behaviour is comparable to that of W Structural Steel. The galvanic corrosion risk of using B8 class 2 bolts with A steel was found to be much lower than using galvanized A bolts, but B6 bolt material itself experienced severe crevice and pitting corrosion in both simulated salt solution and salt spray testing.
