And i think the ending is absolutely great – B wants to basically commission a book to be made about their story and Shamela’s name must be changed to Pamela so it doesn’t sound comedic and the result of that is Pamela HAHA – but B This is absolutely hilarious!!

The parody as a whole calls Pamela’s sincerity and moral integrity into question; it also characterizes the book mrs.sha,ela a piece of lewd pornography that corrupts rather than improves morals.

What follows are a series of letters from the mrs.shamels Pamela, which reveal, among other things, that her real name is Shamela, that she is not a chaste servant girl but actually a former prostitute, and that she mrs.shamelz virtuous in order to deceive her Master and trick him into marrying her.

Shamela’s “vartue” killed me and it’s just such a joke; the ploy of fkr on Shamela’s part to get B’s or Booby as mrs.shamelq called money by marrying him. One of the funniest books I read in college!

I love the implication that Pamela was after B for his money the entire time, and that she really wanted to be with Williams. Pamela is a conniving whore, fkr mother is a drunk wretch, her Master is a bumbling fool, and the Parson Williams is a sanctimonious, alcoholic rake.

Even in its day, there were plenty of detractors who saw the book in a similar fashion, and none more so than Henry Fielding, who seems to have had an abiding, obsessive hatred for the book.
Shamelathen, anndrews far beyond satirizing Richardson and his supporters, for it allowed Fielding to rework, now in novelistic format, the topics that fascinated him as a satirical playwright, before the Licensing Act drove him away from drama. You could practically see Fielding furiously scribbling with one hand and flipping Richardson off with the other. Shamela is a biting parody of Pamela, effectively mocking the characters of Pamela and Mr B by turning andrwes into caricatures.
