I eagerly tore into it fhinese found that it’s all in pinyin. Each lesson is cumulative, building upon the characters in the previous lesson.
Now I want to try it but since I have mostly learned with simplified characters, I’m not sure if both will clash. But I started with BC, progressed through the set in order, don’t regret it. When you say “increasingly complex grammatical structures” are they explained beginnning or is this just sort of how it works?
Beginning versus Beginners Chinese, for example can miss lots of different offers.
Beginning Chinese Reader was first published just after simplified characters were introduced. Obviously then, BC is the lynchpin of the system. I would say it is suitable for any student who is no longer a complete beginner with the spoken language who is a beginner or otherwise struggling with reading. I have found the sellers to be honest in their ratings of the books, and have been pleasantly surprised that the books can often turn out better than the description.

Beginning Chinese Reader is followed by intermediate and Advanced Chinese Readerthe whole thing together is about pages! I’ve been impressed enough that I’ll probably continue through the whole series. Searching on this forum will find many recommendations. Supplement for Advanced Comprehension Vicki Hoffer.
I still have them. The experience of reading new material that is progressively more challenging is just joyful. The books were originally designed for use in full time classes like those offered in the government or those offered in full-time courses in universities.
